High school mobilizations, power management, and international tensions in France

Institutions and democracy

The management of high school protests marks a global drift of the rule of law according to Mediapart, while PaduTeam claims that democracy has been abolished under Emmanuel Macron. OMERTA argues that the current power is establishing totalitarianism and that the military engagement to protect the Yanbu terminal was not coordinated with Parliament. Clément Viktorovitch considers that limiting the budgetary amendment power of parliamentarians hinders their ability to act. Paroles D'Honneur links the Rassemblement National to neo-Nazi figures, while Frontières sees in French society a status game inherited from an aristocracy. Histoires Crépues notes that Bruno Retailleau and the Minister of Education fear approaching the youth.

Security and justice

The government is allegedly exercising historic repression and despising young people according to Mediapart. Paroles D'Honneur adds that the State is waging war against youth through the illegal use of offensive grenades. Conversely, Psyhodelik considers the high school movement to be mostly violent and advocates for lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 15. VA Plus reports that anti-police hatred is expressed in classrooms, forcing a police officer's family to homeschool. PaduTeam argues, however, that violence is produced by the police and staged by the media.

Education and culture

The lack of attractiveness of the teaching profession is weakening the educational system according to Mediapart, which considers the SNU insufficient against social distress. Histoires Crépues and Psyhodelik agree that high school students are mobilizing to denounce the lack of resources and demand better educational conditions. Regarding the Sorbonne, Frontières claims that the administration denied entry to students wanting to attend classes despite the faculty's support for strikers.

Equality and discrimination

National priority for housing access is described as a xenophobic and racist measure by Clément Viktorovitch. Paroles D'Honneur highlights the existence of differentiated judicial and police treatment between high schools in city centers and those in suburbs. For its part, Psyhodelik claims that the only racism present in the suburbs is anti-white racism.

International affairs

Iran is allegedly using the blockade of the Bab al-Mandab strait as a strategic lever against Israel and Saudi Arabia, while Donald Trump refuses to intervene to preserve agreements with the Houthis, according to OMERTA. Paroles D'Honneur presents the Houthi movement in Yemen as an anti-imperialist social and popular movement.

Media and information

Mediapart claims that the Rassemblement National seeks to discredit its media to avoid the core issues, and reports that Mayor Christophe Barthès is attempting to intimidate journalists from L'Indépendant. Histoires Crépues argues that the media portray mobilizing high school students as rioters or thugs.

How the arguments are drawn

The theme’s political sentences are drawn at random by period, with quotas per orientation and a cap per channel and per video. Our local model reads the sentences without knowing their channel or orientation, groups those making the same argument, separates those reporting it in order to contest it and sets aside those off the theme. Orientation shares and quotes come from the sentences, never from the model. The last seven days are read again every day.
