Data

The data, and how to reach it.

Three ways in, depending on what you need: the open pages and files, the explorer, the API. The whole base is reserved for research, with a key.

Three ways in

Without a key, or with one.

02

The explorer, with a key

Browse videos, transcripts and comments; filter by channel, date or classifier; search by words or by meaning; export according to the key’s tier.

  • The text of transcripts and comments, reserved for research projects.
  • A personal key, issued by the team with an access tier.

03

The API and the clients

The same tables, over REST, with the same key; the R (youpoldata) and Python (youpol-client) clients cover the common uses.

library(youpoldata)
cli <- youpol_client()   # reads YOUPOL_TOKEN
youpol_videos(cli, country = "QC", limit = 10)

Examples

Six questions, and which way to go.

What you get without a key, what needs the explorer or the API.

  1. 01

What share of a channel’s sentences is political, quarter by quarter?

The channel’s page plots the series and gives its CSV.

    no key Go →

  2. 02

How many videos name Jordan Bardella since January, and on which channels?

The public figure’s record, by month, orientation and channel; the list of videos through the API.

    no keyAPI Go →

  3. 03

All the sentences of a video classified “immigration”, with their timestamp.

The explorer filters a video by classifier; the API returns the sentences with their probabilities (Analysis 2 tier).

    explorerAPI Go →

  4. 04

The comments of a video and their politicisation.

The counts are on the video’s record; the text of the comments needs the Research tier.

    no keyAPI Go →

  5. 05

A corpus of transcripts by channel and period, to analyse elsewhere.

CSV or JSON export through the explorer or the R client, at the Research tier.

    explorerAPI Go →

  6. 06

The videos of a channel that became unavailable, with the reason and the record.

The vanished-videos page and its JSON, without a key.

    no key Go →

Access tiers

Four tiers, one personal key.

The explorer and the API require a key, issued by the team with an access tier according to the project. Default limits can be adjusted.
